Carbon Descent

Combining carbon fiber, 3D prints, structural foam, and wood posts I aimed to create a bench that appears to be carved out of a single solid form.

 

Its design is inspired from the joinery and simplicity of 18th century Chinese dynasty benches.

 

It appears to be hefty and immovable, but the opposite is true — several layers of epoxy and carbon give it complex strength in combination with its simple appearance and light weight.
